What Causes Crooked Teeth?

Posted on 1/9/2023 by Rendon Orthodontics
What Causes Crooked Teeth?Teeth that are crooked or misaligned result from an abnormally tiny upper or lower jaw, which causes the jaw to be shorter than it should be. Jaws that are not properly aligned may lead to various dental issues, including overbite and underbite.

Several different causes might lead to teeth that are crooked or misaligned. There are other causes than genetics at play when it comes to crooked teeth. The following are important factors that may play a role in the teeth and jaws not fitting together properly in your mouth.

Problems with the alignment of your teeth and jaws, such as overcrowding or inappropriate bite patterns, may also be caused by a hereditary difference in size between your upper and lower jaws. In addition, incorrect oral hygiene practices throughout childhood might also lead to crooked teeth.

Incorrect alignment of the teeth may be caused by various habits, including thumb-sucking, extended bottle feeding, tongue pushing, or the use of a pacifier beyond the age of three. Apart from this, the lack of a comprehensive oral hygiene practice may lead to dental caries, infections, and even the loss of teeth in the long run.

Crooked Teeth Can Be Fixed

A dentist may correct your crooked teeth in various methods, including with conventional braces or even with Invisalign, which employs transparent, pleasant, and removable aligners to gradually shift your teeth into their correct positions. A dentist may also use dental bonding, molded, sculpted, and color-matched bonding material to straighten a crooked smile.
