What are the advantages of corrective jaw surgery?Corrective jaw surgery helps restore and improve the teeth and jaws' function. The primary purpose of jaw surgery is to resolve a misaligned bite and enhance your appearance, self-confidence, and self-esteem. Here are other benefits of corrective jaw surgery:

Pain relief

Jaw surgery help to alleviate pain, especially for people with dentofacial deformity who encounter temporomandibular joint derangements. Misaligned jaws cause untold stress and strain on the joints. In addition, misalignment can cause TMJ disorder due to frequent popping and reduced range of motion. When jaws are well realigned, this will reduce pain and strain.

Offers a better bite

You will experience chewing difficulties when your jaws are not well aligned. This will be a bit challenging to eat some food. Corrective jaw surgery will reposition your teeth, providing a healthier bite. Failure to chew food properly can lead to other health problems like digestion.

Proper pronunciation

Jaws alignment will improve your pronunciation as well as speech. Misalignment of teeth and jaws can make it difficult for you to shape particular words. Inability to pronounce different words correctly is disappointing and lowers one's self-esteem.

Sleep soundly

You risk developing sleep apnea if you have misaligned jaws. This happens when the upper airways are obstructed, making it difficult to breathe at night. Sleep apnea leads to mood problems, high blood pressure, difficulty concentrating, depression, obesity, and heart problems. Jaw surgery will boost your breathing, prevent sleep apnea and improve your overall health.

Decreased wear

Jaw realignment gives the teeth a break. Misaligned teeth force you to work two times harder to function well, leading to unnecessary teeth tear and wear. When you exert more pressure on the teeth can result in decay, damage, and eventually tooth loss. Jaw surgery will help reduce this pressure as it will balance pressure evenly on your teeth, decreasing your tooth wear.
