What Are The Advantages Of Dental Braces?

Posted on 9/25/2023 by Rendon Orthodontics
What Are The Advantages Of Dental Braces?Braces offer numerous benefits. Many people associate braces with achieving straight teeth. While teeth straightening is a significant advantage, our orthodontists and dentists may recommend braces for reasons beyond aesthetics. The benefits of wearing braces extend beyond a beautiful smile. Here are other advantages of getting braces:

Improved Oral Health

Crowded or crooked teeth may be difficult to clean. Braces help to align your teeth properly, which aids in maintaining good oral hygiene. Straight teeth are easier to clean, reducing the risk of plaque buildup, tooth decay, and gum disease. By aligning teeth, braces facilitate better access for brushing and flossing, promoting long-term oral health.

Speech Improvement

Misaligned teeth can affect the way you pronounce some words. This can affect your self-consciousness and confidence. By aligning teeth and correcting related issues, braces can improve speech clarity and pronunciation.

Improved Chewing and Digestion

The primary role of your teeth is to cut and grind food for proper digestion. However, misaligned teeth can compromise this function. They can hinder the ability to break down food into smaller particles, potentially impacting digestion. Braces can greatly enhance the efficiency of your teeth in this process. By aligning your teeth properly, orthodontic treatment improves their functionality, allowing for more effective cutting and grinding of food. As a result, digestion can be significantly improved, promoting better overall digestive health.

Fix Your Bite

Braces are employed to correct other issues like malocclusions. While this aspect is sometimes overlooked, it significantly benefits your oral health. Malocclusion, if left untreated, can worsen over time and lead to excessive clenching and grinding of teeth. This can cause problems like jaw pain, tooth wear, headaches, and even temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders.

Prevent Bone Erosion

Under normal circumstances, the jawbones are subjected to consistent pressure from the teeth above. This pressure serves as a stimulus for healthy bone growth and maintenance. However, misaligned or crooked teeth can disrupt this pressure balance, resulting in uneven pressure distribution on the jawbone. Certain areas may receive insufficient stimulation, while others endure excessive pressure. Over time, this imbalance can lead to bone erosion or resorption.
Braces can help address these issues. By properly aligning the teeth and jaws, braces restore the balanced pressure distribution on the jawbones. This stimulates healthy bone growth, prevents bone erosion, and helps maintain the overall health and integrity of the jawbone.
